    RIO MAR, P.R. – Northwestern completed the first round of its spring schedule Sunday at the 10th Annual Lady Puerto Rico Classic played on the River Course at Rio Mar Beach Resort. After 18 holes of competition, NU sits in 10th place with an 18-over 306, one stroke behind three teams tied for seventh with a 17-over 305.

    Five golfers are competing for Northwestern and senior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) had a solid first round, finishing at an even-par 72 to tie for sixth. Lederhausen started the day on the sixth hole and worked through the first 11 holes with ease as she either birdied or finished on par. Lederhausen wrapped up round one with five birdies, coming on the eighth, 11th, 13th, 15th and 18th holes.

    Three other NU competitors finished with a 6-over 78. Freshman Brittany Mai (Poway, Calif./Poway) birdied on the fourth and 11th holes while sophomore Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) and Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson) each had one birdie in round one and all three are tied for 44th.

    Junior Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) rounded out the group of five for Northwestern and she finished the first round with a 10-over 82, tying for 74th. Weaver began on the fifth hole and struggled in holes six and seven with double-bogeys on each, but bounced back with birdies on the eighth, 13th and 15th holes.

    LSU and Georgia lead the field after the first day with a 6-over 294. Georgia’s Emilie Burger shot a 6-under 66 to lead the individual race. Four others are tied for second with a 1-under 71.

    Competition resumes at the 10th Annual Lady Puerto Rico Classic tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. local time (6 a.m. CT).
