Kathy Williams, a former Big Ten Coach of the Year at the University of Minnesota, is in her second season as an assistant coach for the Wildcats. Serving as Minnesota's head women's golf coach from 1991-99, Williams guided the Golden Gophers to three NCAA tournament berths. Nine of her golfers earned All-Big Ten honors. Williams was named Big Ten and Midwest Region Coach of the year in 1992, following her team's second-place conference finish. In 1998, she was honored as the LPGA Midwest Coach of the Year. Williams graduated from Minnesota in 1982, earning a bachelor's degree in commercial recreation. She starred for the Golden Gopher women's golf team from 1977 to 1981, setting numerous school records, including most career tournament wins (17) and single-season wins (6). In the fall of 2005, Williams was inducted into the school's M Club Hall of Fame. Prior to playing on the LPGA Tour from 1982-85, Williams earned Q-School medalist honors. Williams played a key role in the Northwestern Invitational in April, 2006, serving as the tournament director. "Kathy brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program," said head coach Chris Regenberg. "Her title says assistant coach, but I view her more as a co-head coach." Williams most recently served as four-year teaching professional at the Prairie Landing Golf Club in West Chicago, Ill. |
