EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head coach Tracey Fuchs was recognized Wednesday by being named the Dita/NFHCA West Region Coach the Year.

In her fourth season at the helm, Fuchs guided the Wildcats to one of their best seasons in years in 2012 as Northwestern posted a 16-4 overall record. The 'Cats went 4-2 in Big Ten play, good for a second-place finish.

NU notched seven victories over ranked opponents this season as the Wildcats reached as high as a No. 8 national ranking. The Wildcats won 15 of 16 games over a stretch from Aug. 29 through Oct. 21, including winning streaks of eight and seven games.

Fuchs is joined on the Northwestern coaching staff by assistants Ali Johnstone and Zoe Almquist.

The staff helped produce a pair of All-America selections as senior Chelsea Armstrong was named to the first team and junior Tara Puffenberger was a third-team selection. Armstrong and Puffenberger were joined on the All-Big Ten first team by Nikki Parsley, while Lisa McCarthy was a second-team pick and was honored as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
