2012 All-America Teams (PDF)
EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern is represented by two individuals on the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-America teams announced Tuesday. Senior Chelsea Armstrong (Perth, Australia/Penrhos) was honored as a first-team selection, while junior Tara Puffenberger (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) was named to the third team.
The All-America honor is the third of Armstrong's outstanding career. She was named to the second team as a sophomore and to the first team as a junior. Armstrong capped her Northwestern career by leading the nation during the regular season with 29 goals and 65 points. Both totals established NU single-season records. She earned her fourth-consecutive selection to the All-Big Ten first team and the All-West Region team and was honored on Monday as the West Region Player of the Year.
Armstrong joins Kathleen Kochmansky, Jennifer Averill, Kathy Halley and Colleen Senich on the list of three-time All-Americans in Northwestern history.
Puffenberger earns her first All-America honor in her first season at Northwestern after transferring from Virginia. She was a first-team All-Big Ten and All-West Region selection. Puffenberger had an immediate impact at NU, earning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week twice while ranking second on the team behind Armstrong with 15 goals and 40 points to go along with 10 assists.
Northwestern completed its 2012 season with 16 victories (16-4) which was the program's most since posting 18 wins in 1989. The Wildcats finished second in the Big Ten with a 4-2 conference record.
