2013 All-Region Teams (PDF)
EVANSTON, Ill. -
Three members of the Northwestern field hockey program have been recognized as first-team Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region selections. Seniors Nikki Parsley and Tara Puffenberger as well as sophomore Lisa McCarthy earned the recognition and are now eligible for All-America accolades.
The all-region selection is the fourth of Parsley's outstanding career. She ranked fourth in the Big Ten this season with 13 goals and eighth with 29 points. The Milford, Del., native had a pair of multi-goal games: at Kent State (Oct. 6) and at Indiana (Oct. 18).
A native of Dallas, Pa., Puffenberger notched seven goals to rank second on the team while also ranking third with six assists for 20 points. She posted two goals in a Senior Day win over Ohio State (Nov. 1) and ranked fourth in the conference with 75 shots. Puffenberger was a first-team All-West Region honoree last season as well as a second-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region recipient in 2010 while at Virginia.
McCarthy anchored a back line of defense that ranked among the nation's best this season. Northwestern is fourth in the nation with a 1.13 goals-against average. Offensively, she led the Wildcats with eight assists after leading the league in the category a year ago. McCarthy was a second-team all-region choice as a freshman in 2012.
Northwestern completed its season with an impressive 15-5 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in Big Ten play to earn a share of the regular-season conference title.
