LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Senior forward Regan Mooney has been chosen to compete in the 2011 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Senior Game in Louisville, Ky., at 3 p.m. Saturday, the NFHCA announced. Mooney is the first Wildcat to compete in the end-of-the-year event since Courtney Plaster-Strange was selected in 2009.
One of 27 other seniors from around the country -- and one of only four Big Ten representatives -- Mooney will compete in a series of 25-minute sessions where the athletes will not only face each other on the pitch, but also will square off with the U.S. Women's National Team for a scrimmage.
During her breakout senior campaign, Mooney started all 21 games for the 'Cats, garnering second-team All-Big Ten honors. She led the conference with 20 assists on the season, finishing fourth in the nation in assists per game (0.95). As NU's primary inserter on penalty corners, Mooney took full advantage of her role on offense and finished the season with a team-best .865 shooting percentage (35 shots/32 shots on goal), while knocking in a career-high eight goals.
The Senior Game in Louisville has a 3 p.m. start time with the Home Senior Squad vs. the Away Senior Squad. After an intermission, both Home and Away Senior Squads will separately face off with the U.S. National Team, each for 25-minutes, followed by one more bout with each other before the post-game awards reception.
