EVANSTON, Ill. - Four Northwestern field hockey players have been recognized as Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region recipients it was announced Thursday.

The list is headed by senior Chelsea Armstrong (Perth, Australia/Penrhos) who was named to the first team for the fourth consecutive season. She paced the nation with 29 goals and 65 points during the regular season, establishing Northwestern single-season records in the process. Armstrong led the Big Ten in points all four years of her career and paced the league in goals each of her final three seasons after ranking second as a freshman. A four-time first-team All-Big Ten recipient, she concluded her collegiate career with 100 goals and 238 points.

Tara Puffenberger (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) was also named to the All-West Region first team. A first-team All-Big Ten selection in her first season with the Wildcats, the junior ranked fourth in the conference in points (40), fifth in goals (15) and 10th in assists (10). She was twice named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. Puffenberger was a Mid-Atlantic second-team all-region team pick in 2010 while attending Virginia.

Nikki Parsley (Milford, Del./Milford) earned first-team honors as well. The midfielder played a key role in Northwestern ranking second in the league with an average of 3.84 goals per game and first with a 1.35 goals-against average. Offensively, she had two goals and one assist to her credit this year. She was also named a first-team all-region selection a year ago and a second-team pick as a freshman.

Earning second-team all-region recognition was freshman Lisa McCarthy (Dublin, Ireland/Mount Anville). This season she was the first Northwestern player to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. She also earned second-team All-Big Ten honors as she paced the league with 18 assists while heading up a stellar back that notched a Big Ten-leading seven shutouts this season.

Northwestern concluded its 2012 season with a 16-4 overall record, including a 4-2 mark in Big Ten play which was good for a second-place finish.
