EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Big Ten announced its weekly award winners on Monday and tabbed Northwestern sophomore Chelsea Armstrong as the conference's co-Offensive Player of the Week along with Ohio State's Maria Briones. It marks the third time this season that the Australia native has garnered the weekly laurel.

This is the fifth time in 2009 a Northwestern player has received the league's Offensive Player of the Week award.

Armstrong began the week by firing eight shots and recording an assist in Northwestern's 3-0 defeat of California on Tuesday. On Friday, Armstrong and the rest of the Wildcats scored one of the program's biggest wins in recent memory by defeating Penn State on the road, 3-2, to earn their first Big Ten victory of the season. Armstrong assisted on Zoe Almquist's first-half tally and, after PSU tied things up at two midway through the second half, Armstrong stepped up to score what proved to be the game-winner with 17 minutes remaining. It was the Wildcats' first triumph against the Nittany Lions since 1997 and their first win in Happy Valley since 1994.

Armstrong's goal was her Big Ten-leading 21st and raised her season points total to 54, the second-highest single-season scoring total in Northwestern history. She also has a team-best four game-winning goals this season.

Northwestern (12-4) is aiming for its fourth straight win and its second consecutive victory in the Big Ten when it travels to Indiana at noon Saturday. The game will be broadcast on tape delay by the Big Ten Network at 11 a.m. Sunday.
