EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern midfielder Dominique Masters (Canterbury, United Kingdom/The King's School) has been recognized as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week the conference office announced Tuesday.

It is the first league weekly honor of her career. She is the second NU player to earn the laurel this season as Isabel Flens earned the distinction Sept. 10.

Masters assisted on the game-winning goal of the Wildcats' 3-2 victory at ninth-ranked Duke on Friday. In the 63rd minute of play, Masters fed a pass on target to Caroline Troncelliti for the go-ahead score that Northwestern would not relinquish. Masters had five shots in the contest, including tying for a team high with three on goal, as the Wildcats won for the eighth straight game.

She contributed two shots, including one on goal, in NU's narrow 2-1 loss at No. 4 Virginia on Sunday.

Masters ranks tied for second in the Big Ten with 43 shots so far this season to go along with six points.

Northwestern (8-2) is ranked No. 12 in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA poll and hosts a pair of ranked opponents at Lakeside Field this week. The Wildcats take on No. 14 Iowa at 2 p.m. Friday in a contest that is being televised live by Big Ten Network. NU also takes on No. 19 Michigan at noon Sunday.
