EVANSTON, Ill. -- Winner of its last seven contests, the 10th-ranked Northwestern field hockey team opens up its Big Ten season on Friday as it travels to Ohio State.

The contest gets underway at 2:30 p.m. Central time. A live video stream of the contest can be accessed via Wildcats All-Access.

The Wildcats continue their road trip with a nonconference contest at 11 a.m. Sunday at Ohio. The contest will be a homecoming for NU assistant coach Ali Johnstone who was a standout for the Bobcats from 1998-2001 and then coached there during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

A road trip is nothing new for the Wildcats who played their first eight matches of the season away from Evanston prior to last Saturday's home-opener against Ball State.

Northwestern's current winning streak is the program's longest since it won 12 in a row from Sept. 15-Oct. 27, 1990. NU enters play this weekend with a perfect 4-0 record in true road games this season. All four victories came against ranked opponents.

The 'Cats had nine-point scorers in back-to-back games last week as Chelsea Armstrong had four goals and an assist in a 5-2 win at No. 13 Wake Forest last Tuesday before reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week Tara Puffenberger matched the output in an 8-0 win over Ball State on Saturday.

Armstrong was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after she scored six goals to go along with an assist in the two matches. It was the second time this season and the 12th time in her career that she earned the distinction. She posted two goals against Ball State and became just the fourth player in Big Ten history to surpass 200 career points in the contest.

So far this season, Armstrong leads the Big Ten with 13 goals and 30 points and has career totals of 84 goals and 203 points.

Northwestern ranks second to only Penn State in the conference with an average of 4.0 goals per game while coming in first with a 1.11 goals-against average. Sophomore Maddy Carpenter has seen the majority of the action in goal for the Wildcats, sporting a 1.20 goals-against average and a .763 save percentage.

    Scouting Ohio State
The Buckeyes (5-3, 0-0 Big Ten) have won their last two contests, including an 8-2 victory over Kent State on Wednesday. Danica Deckard posted a hat trick in the win and has tallied eight of the team's 17 goals this year. Ohio State has allowed more than two goals in a game just once in its first eight contests behind goalie Emma Voelker (1.42 gaa, .730 save percentage). The Buckeyes and the Wildcats have one common opponent this year in Miami (Ohio). Northwestern defeated the Red Hawks 3-0, while Ohio State fell to Miami 2-1. OSU tied for second in the Big Ten (4-2) in 2011 while going 12-9 overall.

    Scouting Ohio
The Bobcats take a 4-3 record into their MAC opener at Kent State Friday afternoon. Like Ohio State, Ohio has allowed more than two goals in a game just once through seven contest. The Bobcats have already faced two other Big Ten opponents this season, defeating Indiana 2-1 in a shootout, while falling to Ohio State 1-0 in a shootout. Luli Gomez Teruel (6 g, 1 a) and Taylor Brown (4 g, 5 a) each pace the squad with 13 points, while reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Week Brittany Walker has a 1.96 goals-against average and a .745 save percentage in goal. Ohio won the MAC regular season and tournament titles a year ago.
