2014 Northwestern Field Hockey Schedule
EVANSTON, Ill. -
Defending Big Ten co-champion Northwestern announced its 2014 field hockey schedule today (June 9).
The slate features eight contests to be played at Lakeside Field at the Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex. The challenging schedule also includes matchups against two NCAA semifinalists and four quarterfinalists from a year ago.
The Wildcats get their season underway August 29 at they travel to the East Coast to take on Boston University before facing 2013 national champion Connecticut in Storrs two days later. The latter contest will be a homecoming for Huskie alum Tracey Fuchs, Northwestern's head coach.
NU wraps up the season-opening road trip with a matchup at Miami (Ohio) on Sept. 2. The 'Cats open up their home slate that weekend as they square off with Dartmouth in their home-opener Sept. 5 before hosting Louisville Sept. 7.
The following week, Northwestern heads to Winston-Salem, N.C., as it faces host Wake Forest prior to a neutral-site match against James Madison.
The Wildcats open up a season-long four-match homestand Sept. 20, welcoming Big Ten newcomer and 2013 NCAA semifinalist Maryland. A contest with Ball State follows the next day before Rutgers, another newcomer to the Big Ten, comes to Lakeside Field Sept. 26. The homestand wraps up two days later with a visit from Indiana.
NU then plays its next five contests away from Evanston, starting with a match at Iowa Oct. 5. The next four matches all will be played in the state of Michigan beginning with an Oct. 10 showdown with Stanford in Ann Arbor. Two days later, the 'Cats head to Mount Pleasant to meet Central Michigan.
A trip to Ann Arbor for the second straight week takes place Oct. 17 as the Wildcats face host Michigan prior to a trip to East Lansing to challenge Michigan State.
The Big Ten home season comes to a close Oct. 25 as Northwestern takes on Ohio State. The conference slate comes to a close Oct. 31 with a meeting at fellow conference regular-season co-champion Penn State before the 'Cats host Kent State Nov. 2.
Northwestern makes a third trip to Ann Arbor later that week as the University of Michigan hosts the Big Ten tournament Nov. 6-9.
The Wildcats return 17 letterwinners from last year's team which went 15-5 overall, including a 5-1 mark in conference play.
