MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -- Dominique Masters scored a pair of first-half goals as No. 13 Northwestern wrapped up a month-long road trip with a 2-0 victory at Central Michigan Sunday afternoon.

The contest was the Wildcats' sixth consecutive on the road, spanning the entire month of October.

"I'm happy that we were able to come away from this weekend with two victories," Northwestern head coach Tracey Fuchs said. "We played two quality teams and worked hard for both victories. We're looking forward to finally coming home for a game against Ohio State on Friday."

NU (14-4) was playing in a game for the second straight day after posting a 2-1 win at Michigan State on Saturday and the 'Cats were locked in a scoreless battle with the Chippewas until the 17th minute of play.

Following a penalty corner, Masters beat CMU goalkeeper Sadie Reynolds for her sixth goal of the season, giving Northwestern a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Julia Retzky and Lisa McCarthy assisted on the play.

The precarious one-goal advantage was maintained until the closing moments of the opening half when the visitors earned another corner try. The Wildcats managed to cash in again with Masters tallying for the sixth time this year at 32:16. McCarthy and Retzky were credited with their second assists of the day on the play.

NU's two-goal edge was more than enough as the team's defense stifled Central Michigan, allowing just four shots in the matchup. Maddy Carpenter was up to the task on each of the shots on goal that she saw, making three saves to earn the team's sixth shutout of the season.

The Wildcats recorded only five shots of their own, but capitalizing on the corner opportunities proved to be the difference.

Northwestern wraps up its regular season Friday as it hosts Ohio State on Senior Day at Lakeside Field. The contest is slated to get underway at 2 p.m. and is being televised live by Big Ten Network.
