KENT, Ohio -- Nikki Parsley scored a pair of goals and Kelley Stump added another as No. 10 Northwestern got back on track with a 3-1 victory at Kent State Sunday afternoon.

Playing their second match in as many days in two different states, the Wildcats bounced back from a 2-0 loss at No. 8 Penn State on Sunday.

"It was good to come away with a victory today and score some goals in the field," Northwestern head coach Tracey Fuchs said. "Playing back to back days is really going to prepare us for the Big Ten tournament. We played hard today and got a well-deserved victory."

NU (11-3) struck first just over nine minutes into the contest as Parsley took a feed from Kelsey Thompson and finished past Andrea Rinehart, giving the visitors the lead.

The Golden Flashes did a good job of holding the 'Cats in check, but Parsley eventually gave Northwestern an insurance goal at 28:23 as she notched her second of the half and team-leading 10th of the season to make it 2-0. Isabel Flens assisted on the play.

The Wildcats would carry the two-goal edge into halftime and then got one final score 8:11 into the second half when Stump notched a goal off a Tara Puffenberger assist, increasing the NU advantage to three.

The cushion was more than enough for goalkeeper Maddy Carpenter and the Northwestern defense. Kent State did manage to avoid the shutout when Madison Thompson scored an unassisted goal at 57:29.

The Wildcats finished the match with a 14-7 edge in shots and 7-4 in penalty corners. Carpenter made three saves to earn the victory in goal.

NU returns to Big Ten play at 2 p.m. Central time Friday as it travels to Indiana. The match is being televised live by Big Ten Network.
