EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Nikki Parsley's goal six minutes into the second half was the difference as the 12th-ranked Northwestern field hockey team ran its winning streak to seven with a 1-0 win over Ohio on Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
The shutout was the Wildcats fourth of the season. The team has allowed just two goals over its last six contests.
NU dominated possession throughout the contest, but the Bobcats who were coming off a shutout win over California on Saturday locked down and prevented the hosts from getting on the board throughout the opening half.
The contest was deadlocked at the intermission despite the 'Cats holding a 7-2 advantage in shots.
Northwestern was finally able to break through at 40:51 as Parsley possessed the ball just inside the top of the circle and her shot made its way through traffic and past goalkeeper Brittany Walker to put the Wildcats in front 1-0.
NU looked to build upon its advantage, but was never able to do so. However, the one goal proved to be enough as the Wildcats' stellar defense continued. Charlotte Martin, Lisa McCarthy, Julia Retzky and Kelsey Thompson teamed up to allow only one shot on frame against goalkeeper Maddy Carpenter.
The 'Cats finished the contest with advantages of 12-5 in shots and 10-6 in penalty corners.
Northwestern heads away from Evanston next weekend, facing stiff road tests at Duke on Friday and Virginia on Sunday.
