EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern took its preseason training camp to the next level Thursday, traveling to the campus of the University of Iowa for a scrimmage against Calgary. Senior forward Alexandra Quinn put Northwestern on the board in the second half off a feed from sophomore midfielder Kendra Sirak as the teams played to a 1-1 draw.

"Today's performance was a true team effort that we are all extremely proud of," head coach Kelly McCollum said. "We were happy with our focus as a group through the duration of the game and are excited to continue our improvement in the coming week."

Quinn's tally came off a shot 10 yards from the cage that bested Calgary goalkeeper Alicia Fritche just over 10 minutes into the second half. Only three minutes later, however, Calgary midfielder Megan Lee deflected in a cross to knot the score at one.

The Wildcats started the scrimmage with a good mix of experience and youth on the field. Junior forward Courtney Plaster-Strange led the purple-and-white with six shots while Quinn and sophomore forward Sarah Marcincin chipped in with four apiece. Northwestern out-shot Calgary 17-12 overall.

Northwestern's goalkeepers, Emily Kyle and Katie Lynch, combined for five saves on the afternoon.

The Wildcats open their regular season schedule on Saturday, Aug. 30 when they take on Northeastern at 2 p.m. CT in Boston, Mass.
