Marti Kane enters her third season as a member of the Wildcat staff.

Kane joined Northwestern after serving as an assistant at the University of Rhode Island for two seasons. Her expertise in the goal cage as well as her extensive experience working with field players helped the Rams improve their overall record from 4-14 in 2004 to 7-10 during the 2005 season.

For three seasons, Kane was the assistant coach at Colby College (1996-98) in Waterville, Maine, where she also served as an assistant for lacrosse. Prior to her tenure at Rhode Island, Kane was an assistant coach at Sanford High School and head coach at Biddeford High School in Maine. Since her arrival in the Midwest, Kane has continued to coach at the high school level, as she now serves as the head goalkeeping coach for the Windy City winter club team.

She also has served as the U.S. Field Hockey Futures Olympic Development program Region 3 site director. In July 2005, Kane coached a team at the National Futures Championship in Virginia Beach, Va., that finished fourth in the nation. In 2008, Kane served as the assistant goalkeeping coach with the US Field Hockey Midwest High Performance Team.

As a student-athlete she was a varsity letter winner at goalkeeper for the University of Maine under coach Terry Kix. The Black Bears won the 1994 ECAC Championship and Kane earned the Maine Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and was twice named to the conference academic honor roll.
