UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A full complement from Northwestern's women's fencing team will conclude the fall portion of the 2011-12 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the 40th annual Garret Open. The open competition this weekend is hosted by Penn State at the Mary B. White Building in University Park, Pa.

The majority of the Wildcats have been idle since taken part in the Remenyik Open on Oct. 29 and 30 at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion on the Evanston campus. Several of the squad's freshmen have been in action over the past two weekends at the USFA Illinois Junior Olympic Qualifier and the USFA Junior North American Cup.

The 'Cats have outstanding success this fall. At the USFA Burton Open on Oct. 1, Northwestern fencers claimed gold medals in all three weapons. Chloe Grainger (Decatur, Ga./Decatur) claimed the top spot in the sabre, Dayana Sarkisova (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) won the foil event and Courtney Dumas (Cleveland, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) was the top épéeist.

Four weeks later Northwestern swept all three medals at the Remenyik Open. Grainger once again repeated with the sabre, while Devynn Patterson (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) won the foil and Karalina Collins (Houston, Texas/Waltrip) took the gold medal home in the épée.

Dumas was the top finisher at last weekend's Junior North American Cup as she tied for third amongst all épéeists.

The Garret Open begins Saturday at 7 a.m. CT.
