EVANSTON, Ill.-- Fresh off of a great opening weekend at the 2012 USFA Burton Open, Northwestern is back in action this weekend when more than a dozen Wildcats travel to St. Louis, Mo. to partake in the October North American Cup at the America's Center Convention Complex.

Northwestern will be represented by eight fencers in the Division I women's epée competition. Four student-athletes will be entered in the Division I women's foil field, two will take part in the Division II women's event and one will compete in the Division II women's saber.

NU sophomore Courtney Dumas leads the group into the Division I women's epée event. Dumas represented the Wildcats at the 2012 NCAA Championships and also captured a gold medal in the open women's epée event at the Burton Open last Saturday.

Accompanying Dumas in the field will be 2011 NCAA-qualifier Dina Bazarbayeva, senior Kendrick Mooney and a quintet of freshmen: Juliana Barrett, Helen Foster, Haley Hart, Olivia Lim and Kaitlyn Wallace. Their event, featuring one round of pools followed by direct elimination, will take place Saturday, Oct. 13 beginning at approximately 8 a.m.

The Division II women's foil competition will also take place Saturday, beginning around 1 p.m. Northwestern sophomores Sarah Bruhl and Mary Spohn have been entered into that field.

Four 'Cats will fence in the Division I women's foil on Sunday, Oct. 14 around 9:30 a.m. Three-time All-American Dayana Sarkisova will be Northwestern's lone upperclassmen on the strips, where she will be joined by freshmen Mikela Goldstein, Charlotte Sands and Jen Yamin. At last weekend's Burton Open, Sarkisova defeated Yamin in the final bout, 15-11, to secure the gold medal.

Freshmen Cara Franke is the lone NU fencer that will participate in the Division II women's saber event beginning Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.

Following the October NAC, the Wildcats will be idle until Nov. 3-4 when they host the Remenyik Open at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion on campus.
