EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern freshman épée fencer Courtney Dumas represented the Wildcats at the 2012 Unites States Fencing Association April North American Cup in Virginia Beach, Va. over the weekend. Dumas finished fourth in her pool and 35th overall in the talented field.

Dumas enjoyed a spectacular first season with the Wildcats. The Cleveland, native was one of five fencers from Northwestern to compete at the NCAA Championships late last month. Dumas led her pool with 11 victories at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships and went on to finish 15th with 10 wins at her first NCAA Championship.

In addition to her success at the national championship event, Dumas netted a share of the bronze medal at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships on March 3. In her last USFA event, the Junior National Olympics in Salt Lake City in February, the freshman reached the semifinals in the individual competition and helped the 'Cats secure the team bronze with teammates Rose Semmel and Sonali Patel.
