2013 Summer Camps & Clinics
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern invites fencers of all skill levels to take part in its annual offerings of camps and clinics being offered this summer at historic Patten Gymnasium in Evanston, Ill.
Northwestern fencing camps and clinics will include individual lessons, bouting, footwork and conditioning. Participants will receive individually tailored instruction from skilled coaches who are amongst the most talented in the country. All skill levels are welcome, even those who are new to the sport.
The coaches for Northwestern fencing camps include: Yves Auriol, Laurie Schiller, Ed Kaihatsu and Jim Carpenter. Auriol led Notre Dame to six national championships and coached 54 All-Americans along the way. He also served as the coach of the United States Olympic team four times (1980-92).
Schiller, NU's head coach for more than 30 years, is a two-time USFCA National Collegiate Coach of the Year and five-time Midwest Fencing Conference Coach of the Year. Kaihatsu, Northwestern's associate head coach, is a six-time US Fencing national champion and was recently a member of the Veteran World Championship team (2010-12).
Carpenter, a former Wildcat fencer under Schiller's tutelage, is currently the head coach at Stevens Tech. He was a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team (men's epée) and is a three-time member of the U.S. World Team.
All camps are open to any fencer, limited only by age and number of campers. Fencing equipment may be provided, if needed and all participants will receive a camp t-shirt or other special gift.
