    EVANSTON, Ill. -- After capturing the Western Invitational championship on Saturday, Jan. 12, seven members of the Northwestern fencing team will return to competition this weekend at the USA Fencing January North American Cup in Louisville, Ky.

    The event opens Friday, Jan. 18 when two Wildcats will enter the junior women's foil competition. Freshmen Mikela Goldstein and Jen Yamin, key members of the squad that was victorious in California this past weekend, will be in action beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m. CT.

    The bulk of Northwestern's participants will be at the Kentucky International Convention Center on Saturday, Jan. 19 for the junior women's epée event. Sophomore Courtney Dumas along with freshmen Juliana Barrett, Helen Foster and Kaitlyn Wallace will be the 'Cats competing, also beginning at 12:30 p.m. CT.

    Dumas, the most experienced NU fencer headed to Louisville, has enjoyed a considerable amount of success in North American Cups this academic year. The Cleveland, Ohio, native's top performance came when she brought home a bronze medal in the junior women's epée event at the November North American Cup. Dumas also has a pair of top-10 finishes to her credit in Division I women's epée tournaments this year.

    The final member of NU's contingent wraps up competition on Sunday, Jan. 20 when Cara Franke hits the strips for the junior women's sabre event. Sunday's action is slated get underway at 7 a.m. CT.

    Following the weekend in Louisville, the Wildcats will come back together to compete in a team setting at the Philadelphia Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 26. One day later, Northwestern will be in the Big Apple for the NYU Invitational on Jan. 27.
