2009-10 Northwestern Fencing Statistics
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern returns to the strips after its winter break, traveling to the city of Brotherly Love to compete in the Philadelphia Invitational on Saturday, January 9. Hosted by Penn at Hutchinson Gym, the Wildcats will have six dual meets on the afternoon as head coach Laurie Schiller looks to pull to within a single win of 1,000 for his career.
The Wildcats open the meet facing Temple at 9 a.m. CT and looking to avenge a 14-13 loss to the Owls at last season's NU Duals. Northwestern then takes on Drew at 10:30 a.m. before facing the host Quakers at noon. A pair of ACC opponents then await the Wildcats as Northwestern faces Duke at 1:30 p.m., followed by a meeting with North Carolina at 3 p.m. NU closes out the day against Sacred Heart at 4:30 p.m.
Northwestern looks to build on last year's perfect 5-0 result at the Penn Duals, which included an 18-9 victory over the Tar Heels, two nailbiting victories over Temple (14-13) and Penn (15-12) and wins over Duke (17-10) and Drew (23-4).
The Wildcats are 4-0 in dual meet competition this year after sweeping through the Stanford Duals on Nov. 14. The four victories upped Schiller's career record to 993-412, meaning that if Northwestern is able to win all six dual meets this weekend, he will pull to within just one victory of 1,000 for his Wildcat head coaching career.
