North American Cup Results
St. Louis -- Four Northwestern freshmen were in action Sunday as the Wildcats concluded their stint at the USA Fencing October North American Cup in St. Louis, Mo.
Three of the four participants on Sunday entered the Division I women's foil competition and all three had strong showings by finishing in the top half of the field. Charlotte Sands posted the top placement by finishing 38th, while Jen Yamin placed 52nd and Mikela Goldstein concluded in a tie for 56th.
Sands went 4-1 in her pool; Yamin and Goldstein each went 3-2 in their respective groupings.
A fourth freshman, Cara Franke, was Northwestern's lone entry in the Division II women's saber competition. The Des Plaines, Ill., native followed Sands' lead and began her afternoon with four wins in five matches en route to a first-place finish in her pool.
Franke received a bye into the round of 64 where she met Sarah Seol. Franke outlasted Seol, 15-14, before dropping her next bout to Frederique Bourget in the round of 32. Franke concluded the day in 19th place in the Division II women's saber.

The Wildcats will be idle until they host the USFA Remenyik Open at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion on Nov. 3-4.
