    HARTFORD, Conn. - Northwestern's women's fencing team competed at the USFA National Junior Olympics in Hartford, Conn., this weekend. Several Wildcats turned in outstanding performances.

    Freshman Megan Ross (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) finished in14th place in the junior women's epée division. There were 170 entries competitors in her field. Sophomore Gabrielle Aiuto (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck North) finished 153rd.

    In the junior women's foil category, freshman Sam Nemecek (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) placed 13th out of 204 entries. Nemecek--one of NU's top fencer's--was the second seed, but lost a bout in pool play and ended up facing the No. 1 seed (Emily Cross) in the round of 16.

    The Wildcats are next in action when they travel to the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships in South Bend, Ind. The championship will take place Feb. 25-26.
