    EVANSTON, Ill. - Sixth-ranked Northwestern knocked off Stanford 19-8 Thursday in part one of the Wildcats' two competitions this weekend in California. Northwestern is next in action Saturday, Feb. 5 at the San Diego Duals.

    "We beat Stanford pretty strongly," Head Coach Laurie Schiller said. "I was very pleased with how we competed. We dominated every weapon."

    The `Cats fenced foil and epee first and won the match at 14-3 before the sabre competition even started. Here are individual records:

    In the foil, senior Julia Foldi and sophomore Jessica Florendo both went 2-1 on the day. Junior Christina Wang and freshman Natalie Wang went 1-1 and 1-0, respectively. All three losses were to 2000 Olympic team member Iris Zimmerman.

    In epee, junior Sharon Sullivan and sophomore Courtney DuBois both posted perfect 3-0 marks. Sophomore Sara Pecherek went 2-0, while senior Kelsey Nencheck went 0-1.

    With the match in hand, sabre was the last weapon to compete. Seniors Lauren Van Gieson and Lauren Dunn went 1-1 and 2-0, respectively. Sophomores Mai Vu and Sophie Eustis went 1-2 and 1-1, respectively.
