Northwestern continue its three-game stretch but doesn’t have to travel far for Sunday’s contest. The Wildcats head south to Lincoln Park to take on DePaul at McGrath-Phillips Arena Sunday at 4 p.m.
Northwestern used a 10-0 run down the stretch and a season-high nine 3-pointers to come back for a 67-63 victory over Boston College in the 2012 ACC/Big Ten Challenge Wednesday night at the Conte Forum. The Wildcats trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half and seven in the second, but outscored the Eagles 13-5 in the final 3:49 of the game to take the victory and improve to a perfect 6-0 on the season.
Freshman forward Lauren Douglas led the way for the Wildcats, finishing with 18 points on 7-of-12 from the field. Fellow freshman forward Maggie Lyon added 16 points, including four of Northwestern’s nine 3-pointers. Senior forward/center Dannielle Diamant chipped in 14 points, including 9-of-11 from the free throw line.
Northwestern went a perfect 6-0 in the month of November and was one of just two Big Ten teams to go undefeated for the month. Michigan State also posted a 6-0 record in the first month of the season. The Wildcats have posted a 24-6 record in the month of November during the Joe McKeown era, including a 22-2 mark in the last four years during the first month of the season. Here’s a breakdown of NU’s November record under McKeown:
    2012-13: 6-0
    2011-12: 5-1
    2010-11: 6-0
    2009-10: 5-1
    2008-09: 2-4
Freshmen forwards Maggie Lyon and Lauren Douglas have formed quite the dynamic duo for the ’Cats so far this season. The two combined for 34 of Northwestern’s 67 points Wednesday at Boston College and are putting up notable numbers six games in. Lyon has scored in double-figures in all six games, opening the year with a career-high 21 points and played a key role in NU’s comeback against Boston College, scoring eight points, including two 3-pointers, in the final six minutes. Douglas has been in double-digits in four of the six games and has two 10-rebound games.
    2012-13 Record: 5-2
All-Time Series Record: DePaul leads 14-13
Notable: Sunday’s game is a historic one for DePaul head coach Doug Bruno as it is his 800th game in 27 seasons with the Blue Demons. Bruno has led DePaul to a 5-2 record so far this season with wins over Nicholls State (87-57), Howard (68-51), Yale (95-80), Florida Gulf Coast (60-58) and Hampton (68-67). The Blue Demons spent Thanksgiving at the Paradise Jam and went 2-1, falling to South Carolina, 50-46, in the championship game. Junior forward Jasmine Penny and sophomore guard Brittany Hrynko are each averaging 14.0 points per game to lead DePaul while Katherine Harry leads the team in rebounding with 10.4 per game. DePaul is currently receiving votes (six) in the latest AP Top 25 poll.
