The Chicago Sports Commission and Women In Sports & Events (WISE) will co-host the inaugural "Chicago College Hoops Tip-Off Luncheon" on Friday, October 25 at the Hilton Chicago. Five NCAA Division I programs will participate, including Chicago State, DePaul, Loyola, Northwestern and UIC.
The women's and men's head coaches from each school will participate and be part of a panel discussion to give alumni, fans and basketball enthusiasts an inside look at the upcoming season of each team.
"This is such a great way to showcase the quality schools and basketball programs in Chicago," said Sam Stark, Executive Director of the Chicago Sports Commission. "I know of no other community that has this type of depth when it comes to college basketball and the Chicago community will be the beneficiary of this unique and fun event."
Though the schools have jointly held a program in the past, it was not designed for the community-at-large. The Chicago College Hoops Tip-Off Luncheon will feature the men's and women's coaches and they will share an inside look at their team and upcoming season in a way that people never have heard.
"We are excited to partner with the sports commission and the five institutions," added Nancy Atufunwa, President of WISE Chicago. "Our members and the entire Chicago community will appreciate how fortunate we are to have such great coaches leading the young women and men from each school."
The event begins with a "media-only" session at 10 a.m. The community luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program will conclude by 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $55 per person and corporate tables of ten are available for $500. The event will take place at the Hilton Chicago, 720 S. Michigan Ave.
"Northwestern is thrilled to partner with the Chicago Sports Commission and our four Chicagoland peers on what should be a terrific event to tip off the upcoming season," Northwestern Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips said. "Chicago has a rich tradition of excellence in college basketball and we're all looking forward to what should be another exciting campaign."
