EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern incoming freshman Nia Coffey had a busy first week of April, playing at two high school All-American games in Chicago and New Orleans.

Coffey began her week close to Evanston, playing in the 2013 McDonald’s All-American game at the United Center in Chicago on Wednesday, April 3. Coffey, the 6-1 forward from Minneapolis, Minn., logged 15 minutes off the bench. She scored two points and tied for the second-highest rebound total on the East squad, grabbing six boards. She also chipped in two assists and two steals.

She then had the opportunity to travel to New Orleans, the site of the 2013 NCAA Women’s Final Four, and competed in the WBCA All-American Game at the New Orleans Arena on Saturday, April 6. Coffey had a stellar performance, scoring 12 points, the second-highest point total on her squad, and added three rebounds, a block, steal and an assist en route to earning MVP honors for the Purple team. She went 5-of-9 from the field, including 1-of-3 from 3-point range.

Before the All-American games, Coffey led Hopkins High School to its third-straight Minnesota state title. She had 25 points and 16 rebounds in the championship game and was named to the Class AAAA All-Tournament Team. The No. 1 ranked recruit out of Minnesota also earned 2013 Associated Press All-State honors.

Coffey is one of four incoming freshmen that will join the ’Cats for the 2013-14 season. Head coach Joe McKeown’s group of incoming freshmen also includes guard Ashley Deary (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound), guard Christen Inman (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes), who received 2013 WBCA High School All-America honorable mention accolades, and forward Allie Tuttle (Cary, N.C./Panther Creek).
