EVANSTON, Ill. -- In an extension of the recycling program that was initiated this past football season, the women's basketball program will "go green" Monday night when the Wildcats welcome Minnesota to Welsh-Ryan Arena for a 7 p.m. tip.

The first 250 fans in attendance will receive a free Northwestern Basketball eco-friendly reusable grocery tote. The game also will serve as an official event of the Northwestern Green Cup event. This annual competition allows Northwestern's residence halls to compete against each other in their efforts in being the most "green" during a six-week period. The main goal of the competition is to show Northwestern students how to make long-term changes in their daily habits.

Other highlights of the event will include the opportunity for fans to learn more about Northwestern University's commitment to becoming an environmentally sustainable institution. Information will be made available regarding recycling programs, efficient energy usage, water conservation, alternative energy sources and more. Also, one lucky fan will win a pair of round-trip airline tickets courtesy of American Airlines. In keeping with the theme of the event, this winner will also have the carbon emissions from these flights offset in their name.
