NU vs. Iowa Game Notes
EVANSTON, Ill. -- The lone meeting of the year between the Wildcats and Hawkeyes takes place Monday, Feb. 10, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Monday’s game will air live on the Big Ten Network with former Wildcat Mary Murphy on the call, along with Brenda VanLengen.
Monday’s game begins a stretch of five straight games on the Big Ten Network for the Wildcats as the conference recently announced that NU’s Feb. 27 game vs. MSU will broadcast live on the network at 8 p.m. CT.
Northwestern has played a number of close contests throughout the Big Ten season. Thursday’s game vs. Michigan marked the fourth-straight game that was decided by six or less points. Of NU’s six Big Ten losses, four of them were decided by four points or less (66-65 at Nebraska; 76-74 vs. Illinois, 70-68 vs. Michigan and 79-75 vs. Penn State).

The Wildcats currently have an RPI of 58 with wins against three teams ranked in the top 40 for RPI (No. 10 Purdue, No. 35 DePaul and No. 37 Indiana). In the last three, Lyon is averaging a team-best 18.7 ppg, nearly five points better than her 13.6 ppg average. She also is shooting .431 from the field, an improvement upon her .381 percentage on the year.
LAST TIME AT CARVER-HAWKEYE...
Down by as many as 15 points in the second half, Northwestern stormed back to earn a 67-65 victory over No. 24/25 Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Feb. 3, 2013. Karly Roser’s coast-to-coast layup beat the buzzer to secure the win for the Wildcats, their first in Iowa City since 1995.
Tied at 65-65 after a jumper by Melissa Dixon with just five seconds remaining, Roser took the inbounds pass and raced the length of the floor, sinking a leaning layup as the buzzer sounded. The officials checked the replay monitor for several minutes before determining the basket was good, and the Wildcats had earned their first win at Carver-Hawkeye in over 17 years.
2013-14 Record: 18-6, 6-4 B1G

Notable: Iowa has won four if its last five games, most recently taking down Big Ten leaders, Penn State, 73-70 Thursday night in University Park. The Hawkeyes’ lone slip up during that stretch came vs. Nebraska (80-67) and they captured victories over Ohio State (81-74), Indiana (84-75) and Minnesota (64-56). Samantha Logic leads the Big Ten in assists, averaging 7.3 per game and she also is the team’s leading scorer with 14.1 ppg (15th in the Big Ten).
