EVANSTON, Ill. – Senior forward Kendall Hackney received Capital One Academic All-District accolades for the third time in her Wildcat career. A communications studies major and two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Hackney will now be placed on the Academic All-American national ballot. She was selected as one of the District 5 winners by a vote of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Student-athletes with sophomore athletic and academic standing that carry a 3.3 GPA or better are eligible for this distinction. Hackney has received the award every year since her sophomore season.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native, currently leads Northwestern in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game and also contributes 6.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. She has never missed a game in her Wildcat career, playing all 117 over the last four years and has been a starter in 105 of those, including a streak of 88 straight games in the starting lineup. Hackney has also scored in double figures in 76 of the 117 games she has played.
Her 117 games played currently ranks eighth in school history and with eight regular-season games remaining, Hackney needs to play in six of those to set a new school record of 123 games played. Laura Augustyniak currently holds the NU record at 122 games played from 1979-83.
Northwestern is back in action Sunday, traveling to Iowa City, for a 1 p.m. contest against No. 24/25 Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
