VIDEO: Northwestern Celebrates 2012 National Girls and Women in Sports Day
EVANSTON, Ill. – Noted sports journalist Sarah Spain is set to give the keynote address at the National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) event at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Sunday, February 10. Spain is currently a reporter for ESPNChicago.com, a SportsCenter anchor for Chicago’s ESPN 1000 and an espnW columnist.
After graduating from Cornell University, where she was a heptathlete and co-captain of the track & field team, Spain began her career at Intersport Television in Chicago. She then moved to Los Angeles where she worked at Fox Sports Net, did freelance writing and hosting, and graduated from the conservatory at Second City, a school specializing in sketch comedy and improv techniques.
Upon returning to Chicago in 2008, she worked for a number of radio, television and print outlets before joining ESPN in 2010. Spain’s experience as both an athlete and an accomplished reporter in the industry will add a new dimension to the event.
Spain’s address will be followed by roundtable discussions that highlight topics related to women athletes and sports professionals. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and interact with a variety of individuals including Northwestern student-athletes and coaches.
