'Cat Nips
Marshall-O-Meter
As senior Beth Marshall goes, so do the 'Cats. Northwestern is 8-1 when the captain hits two or more triples, a statistic that vividly resurfaced in Sunday's overtime win at Illinois. Marshall hit a triple as the horn sounded in regulation to force the extra session. Ironically enough, it was her second three pointer of the afternoon.
High Five
In this week's NCAA statistics, senior Amy Jaeschke ranks fifth in the nation in both scoring (23.5 ppg) and in blocks per game (3.9). She continues to be a conference leader in several categories, appearing in the top five in rebounding (9.1), defensive rebounds (7.2) and in minutes (35.9). Additionally, Jaeschke has been named Big Ten Player of the Week on three occasions.
'Cats Among Nation's RPI, Strength of Schedule Leaders
Northwestern owns an RPI of 24 in the this week's rankings. The Wildcats are in good company, joining fellow Conference squads Iowa (10), Ohio State (14), Michigan State (16) and Michigan (22) in the top 30. According to realtimerpi.com, Northwestern's schedule is the 36th toughest in the country.
Jaeschke Notches Fourth 30-Point Game
Amy Jaeschke's 30-point performance against Illinois (1.9.11) was her fourth 30-point effort of the season. The 6-5 center also reached that plateau against Chicago State (30), Northern Illinois (33) and versus Central Michigan, when she poured in a career-best 37 points, a conference-high so far this season.
Additionally...
Jaeschke also has tallied double-figures 33-straight contests and has reached the 20-point plateau in a Big Ten-leading 12 games so far this season. She boasts 27 career double doubles and one triple double.
