    Penn State Defeats Northwestern Women's Hoops, 77-70

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Penn State forward Clara Carter notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while center Andrea Garner had 13 rebounds to lead Penn State (13-7, 7-3 Big Ten) to a 77-70 victory over Northwestern (6-16, 1-9 Big Ten) Friday night in Welsh-Ryan Arena.

    NU opened up an 11-2 lead in the first half before the Lady Lions were able to muster an offense. PSU eventually tied the game at 23-23 and took their first lead at 28-27 with 2:41 remaining in the period. The Lady Lions led 31-28 at halftime.

    The Wildcats made an 8-0 run midway through the second half to open up a 49-39 lead with 14:31 remaining, culminating the run on a Dana Leonard layup and free throw. Penn State answered with a 14-6 run of their own to cut the Wildcat lead to 55-53 with 8:48 left on a three-point play by Jamie Parsons. PSU took the lead for good at 63-61 with 4:43 remaining in the game.

    Helen Darling scored 17 points while Parsons added 11 for the Lady Lions. PSU attempted 41 free throws for the game, compared to Northwestern's 15. Kristina Divjak led the Wildcats with 29 points, including three three-pointers. Leslie Schock notched her second double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

    The Wildcats travel to Wisconsin on Sunday while Penn State hosts Illinois.
