    Northwestern Drops 81-64 Decision at Ohio State

    Chawansky Sets Big Ten Free Throw Record in Loss

    COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Wildcat junior guard Megan Chawansky scored a season-high 25 points and set a Big Ten record by shooting a perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line, but Ohio State forced 23 Northwestern turnovers in defeating the Wildcats, 81-64, on Sunday afternoon in St. John Arena. OSU is now 9-5, 2-3 Big Ten, while NU drops to 5-11, 0-4 Big Ten.

    The Wildcats held the lead for the first 10 minutes of the game, as Kristina Divjak scored 12 of NU's first 20 points to give the Wildcats a 20-16 lead with 10:37 left in the first half. With NU leading 21-20, OSU proceeded to go on a 17-0 run over a 5:19 span to take a 35-21 lead with 4:53 remaining in the half. The Buckeyes led 41-32 at intermission, and controlled the second half en route to the 17-point victory.

    Chawansky's 25 points paced the Wildcats, while Divjak had 17 points, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. Divjak and Amber DeWall tied for the team high with fiev boards apiece, while DeWall added eight assists in the loss. DeWall and Mary Connolly scored eight points apiece, while Clarissa Flores' and Leslie Schock's three points each rounded out the Wildcat scoring. Four Buckeyes scored in double figures, led by Marrita Porter's 22 points and team-highs of nine rebounds and seven assists.

    The Wildcats are home for three games this week in Welsh-Ryan Arena, beginning Tuesday night, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. against Purdue. NU also hosts Wisconsin on Friday at 7 p.m. and Minnesota next Sun., Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. Friday's contest against Wisconsin is "Pack the Place" night with all seats just one dollar. Fans are encouraged to come early as all seating is general admission.
