    Northwestern Defeats Southern Illinois

    Wildcats Take Preseason NIT Game, 83-69

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Kristina Divjak's 23 points, including three three-pointers, led Northwestern to a 83-69 victory over Southern Illinois in the first round of the women's Preseason NIT. Guard Amber DeWall went 7-for-14 with 15 points on the night and two steals for the Wildcats.

    NU opened strong, taking a 28-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The lead increased to 26 points by halftime, as the Wildcats held a 51-25 lead at intermission. Freshman guard Dana Leonard was impressive in her NU debut, shooting 2-for-2 from the three-point line. Also key off the bench for the Wildcats was sophomore forward Leslie Schock, who was 3-for-3 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the foul line for a total of 10 points on the night. Southern Illinois's high scorer was forward Theia Hudson, who went 9-for-13 with 20 points.

    The Wildcats will face Clemson on Sun., Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. in Welsh-Ryan Arena in the second round of the NIT.
