EVANSTON, Ill.-- Northwestern held Lewis to just one bucket through the opening eight minutes and poured in 50 first-half points en route to a 83-61 exhibition victory at Welsh-Ryan Arena Sunday afternoon. Senior Brittany Orban and freshman Morgan Jones led the Wildcats with 16 points each, while juniors Kendall Hackney and Dannielle Diamant added 12 apiece.

"It was good to play and get a game under our belts," head coach Joe McKeown said. "Like most teams this year, we did some good things and some bad things, but it gave us a good idea of what we need to clean up."

The Wildcats came off the tip with a purpose, as Jones drained a three-pointer on the opening possession, sparking an 18-2 Northwestern scoring spree. NU went on to shoot 48 percent from the field in the opening half, and generated half of its offense in the frontcourt, scoring 26 points in the paint to Lewis' two. Freshman Karly Roser paced the Wildcats with 10 first-half points, two steals and two blocks.

It was more of the same in the second stanza, as Northwestern continued to find the bucket with consistency, shooting better than 40 percent from the field, including 50 percent from beyond the arc.

Hackney flirted with a double-doubles, adding nine rebounds to her 12 points, while Tailor Jones turned in a solid performance with eight points and a team-best eight dishes.

The Wildcats officially open the season at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11 when they travel to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. for a showdown with Central Michigan.
