Indianapolis, Ind.-- Three Wildcats reached double digits, but No. 24 Nebraska prevailed, 88-56, Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. Dannielle Diamant paced Northwestern with 14 points, while Kendall Hackney and Karly Roser each added 11 in the Wildcats' final game of the season.
"Nebraska took the game from us from the opening tip and we couldn't bounce back," head coach Joe McKeown said. "Give them a lot of credit. Unlike in Lincoln [earlier in the season], we couldn't control the pace today."
Despite shooting 80 percent from the field in the opening four minutes, Northwestern found itself at a 12-9 disadvantage. The Cornhuskers quickly built their lead to double digits after scoring on four-straight possessions out of the 16-minute media timeout.
Nebraska executed exceptionally well from the floor in the first half, shooting 60 percent through the majority of the half and holding Northwestern without a field goal for an 11-minute stretch while building a 41-10 lead. Six points from Diamant finally ended the drought, but the Huskers took a 54-25 lead into the locker room.
Diamant led NU with 10 points at the break, while Hackney added eight.
Northwestern could not find its footing, falling 88-56 in the final game of the season.
