    EVANSTON, Ill. -- First-team All-Big Ten senior guard Megan Chawansky (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) had 20 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists as ninth-seeded Northwestern knocked off eighth-seeded Iowa, 75-71, in round one of the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament this afternoon at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.

    Northwestern advances to Saturday's quarterfinals to face No. 1-ranked Purdue. The game will tipoff at noon CST and will be broadcast on WNUR-89.3 FM radio and televised live by Fox Sports Chicago.

    The Wildcats led by as much as six points (25-19) in the first half before the Hawkeyes rallied to take a 36-30 lead into the locker room. The Iowa lead was 13 points (64-51) with 4:58 remaining in the contest. The 'Cats went on the offensive, going on an 18-5 run to retake the lead (69-68) on a 10-foot baseline jumper by Chawansky with 1:38 left in the game. Leslie Schock would hit a baseline jumper of her own with 0:38 left to give the Wildcats the lead for good at 73-71. Fifth-year senior Shannon McGarrigle added two free throws with 0:11 left to secure the victory. The Wildcats improve to 12-15 overall while Iowa concludes the season with the same 12-15 record.

    Four players scored in double figures for the Wildcats. Schock tied Chawansky for team-high scoring honors with 20 points. Tami Sears posted 16 points and five rebounds while Dana Leonard had 10 points, six assists, three rebounds and three steals in the victory.
