    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Ryan Lang (North Royalton, Ohio/St. Edward) has been named's Wrestler of the Week. Lang earned the honor for his performance at the Michigan State Open last weekend, where he captured the 141-pound title in his first action of the year. Lang was one of three Wildcat wrestlers to win titles at the event.

    After a first-round bye, Lang started on the right note, pinning Eastern Michigan's Bill Amundsen in 3:54. After recording a fall in his third-round match as well, Lang faced Findlay's Von Graham in the semifinal match. Lang took the match easily, recording a 20-5 technical fall.

    In the finals, Lang downed All-American Andy Simmons of Michigan State, 6-5, to win the title. The sophomore then was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler for his efforts. On Tuesday, the Big Ten announced Lang was named conference Wrestler of the Week for his accomplishments.

    As a freshman last season, Lang came within one round of earning All-American status at 141 lbs. at the NCAA Division I Championships. He finished fourth in the Big Ten Tournament and ended the year with a 28-10 overall record.
