    Sliga Captures Junior Nationals Freestyle Title

    FARGO, N.D. – Incoming Northwestern freshman Mitch Sliga (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) won a Junior Nationals freestyle title over the weekend at 195 lbs. Sliga went a perfect 8-0 en route to his title, winning six bouts by tech fall, two by fall and surrendered just one point all tournament. He defeated his finals opponent by a score of 10-0 to capture the 195 lbs. crown.

    The Junior Nationals title adds to an already impressive freestyle resume for the incoming Northwestern freshman. Last summer, Sliga won the Cadet World Team Trials and proceeded to take fifth at the 2012 World Championships, wrestling freestyle at 84 kg. He also finished seventh at the 2013 FILA Junior Nationals and was a 2012 FILA Cadet Nationals freestyle champion.



    The Fishers, Ind., native also captured the 2010 Cadet Triple Crown, winning USA Wrestling national titles in folkstyle, Greco-Roman and freestyle.

    A two-time Indiana state champion, Sliga posted an unblemished 97-0 mark his last two seasons at Fishers High School. He and Jacob Schmitt (Dewitt, Mich./St. Johns), a three-time MHSAA State Champion, join head coach Drew Pariano's squad for the 2013-14 campaign.
