EVANSTON, Ill. – A momentous occasion is on the horizon not only for the Northwestern wrestling team, but for the entire college wrestling community as Welsh-Ryan Arena hosts the 50th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships on Dec. 29-30, 2012. The previous 49 years of this historic tournament have produced countless memories for fans, wrestlers, coaches, tournament officials, etc., and we want to know, what are your favorite memories?
Did you witness the very first tournament in 1963? Were you in the stands when Northwestern Olympian Jake Herbert won one of his titles? Or did you convert a family member or friend to the sport of wrestling by bringing them to Midlands?
We want to hear what you remember the most from this historic tournament. If you’ve been to every Midlands for the last 49 years or have only watched from afar, tell us your stories! Email us at NUMidlands@gmail.com or tweet us at @NU_Wrestle (use hashtag #Midlands50) and tell us all the great things you remember from the tournament.
When you email us, be sure to tell us your name, where you’re from, your connection to Midlands (wrestler, coach, fan, etc.) and any memories you want to share.
In anticipation of the 50th anniversary, we will reveal these memories on NUsports.com leading up to Dec. 29-30. A random selection of 10 people who submit entries will win commemorative Midlands apparel.
Make sure you don’t miss out on the historic event and purchase your tickets now for the 50th edition of Midlands! This year’s tournament falls on a weekend (Saturday-Sunday) and tickets are available for purchase by mailing in this ticket form or by calling 888-GO-PURPLE.
