Watch Herbert at Olympic Media Day
EVANSTON, Ill. – We are just 10 days out from the start of the 2012 Summer Olympics and members of the Northwestern wrestling coaching staff are putting the final touches on their trip to London to watch former NU wrestler Jake Herbert compete in the 84 kg/185 lbs. freestyle division.
Head coach Drew Pariano and associate head coach Tim Cysewski worked with Herbert during his Northwestern tenure and they will be in London supporting the two-time NCAA champion and 2009 Hodge Trophy recipient as he looks to add Olympic gold medalist to his list of accomplishments.
“Jake’s international career is a direct result of the work ethic he exhibited during his time at Northwestern,” Pariano said. “He was one of the best collegiate wrestlers to ever step on the mat and now he is aiming to be the best in the world at 84 kg. He is truly an amazing athlete and that is why he is representing the United States in London.”
“Jake has always dominated his opponents and we are confident that he will take the same approach when he steps on the mat in London,” said Cysewski, who was the head coach of the Wildcats during Herbert’s college career. “Jake has his sights set on the gold medal and we’re looking forward to being with him in London.”
Herbert’s day of competition is Saturday, August 11, which is the second-to-last day of the 2012 Summer Olympics. Wrestling begins at 7 a.m. CT and continues throughout the morning with the medal rounds beginning at 11:45 a.m. CT.
