GUELPH, Ontario – Northwestern volunteer assistant coach Conor Beebe and former Wildcat three-time All-American Jason Welch secured medals at the Canada Cup. The duo represented the Chicago Regional Training Center at the tournament that took place in Guelph, Ontario on July 5.

Beebe captured gold in the 61 kg/134 lbs. freestyle division. He went 3-0 en route to the title and won the championship match with a dominating 13-0 tech fall over Luke Butt from Canada.

Welch went 3-1 to take home bronze in the 70 kg/154 lbs. division. His three victories all came by tech fall, including a 10-0 decision in the third-place bout. His only loss came in the second round to Canadian Olympian Haislan Garcia, 6-6 by criteria.

The 2013-14 season was Beebe’s first as a member of the Northwestern wrestling coaching staff. He helped guide the team to a top-10 finish at the 2014 NCAA Championships with three Wildcats earning All-America distinction. Welch wrapped up his distinguished NU career in 2013 as a three-time All-American and 2013 Big Ten Champion at 157 lbs.

Beebe and Welch were two of five U.S. wrestlers competing at the Canada Cup as all five participants placed in their weight class. Beebe was one of three U.S. wrestlers to capture gold.
