    EVANSTON, Ill. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association released its annual Division I All-Academic Top 30 Teams and Individual All-Academic Team for the 2013-14 wrestling season.

    The Wildcats rank amongst the top 30 teams in the country for GPA while junior Pierce Harger and sophomore Garrison White received All-Academic individual honors.

    It marks the third time in his career the industrial engineering major Harger has been named to the NWCA All-Academic Team, becoming the fourth Wildcats to win the honor three times during his career. His is the first since Jake Herbert (2006-07, 2009) and also joins Matt Delguyd (2004-06) and Sam Neider (1997-99).

    Harger and White are two of 86 wrestlers across the country named to the team, and Harger is one of 76 NCAA qualifiers to make the list. 

    Harger qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third time in his career in 2013-14, where he was named an All-American for the first time in his career, finishing No. 8 at 165 lbs. in the NCAA Championships. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Harger finished his junior year with a 29-10 record and led the Wildcats with eight pins throughout the year.

    A first time NWCA All-Academic selection, White represented Northwestern in the 125 lbs. class at the Big Ten Championships in Madison, Wis. He won 13 matches during the season, recording four major decision victories and two by fall.

    As a team, Northwestern’s GPA during the 2013-14 season ranked No. 23 in the country. Northwestern is one of 12 schools to finish in both the top 25 in team GPA and place in the top 25 as a team at the NCAA Championships. The ‘Cats are also one of six teams to place in the top 25 in team GPA and in the top 10 in the NCAA finals.

    NU finished No. 9 at the NCAA Championships in Oklahoma City this season, marking its second top 10 finish in the past three years.

    Head coach Drew Pariano’s Wildcats are consistently honored by the NWCA for academics as the team has had at least one NWCA All-Academic honoree in 10 of the last 11 season and at least two selections in seven of the past nine seasons.  Pariano’s Wildcats already produced nine Academic All-Big Ten selections, tying the most in school history.
