LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Four members of the Northwestern wrestling family will take part in the Las Vegas/ASICS Senior Open freestyle event this weekend.

Current freshman Mitch Sliga (Fishers, Ind./Fishers), NU alums Jason Welch (’13) and Brandon Precin (’11) and current volunteer assistant coach Conor Beebe will take part in the event.

Beebe will wrestle at 61 kgs (134 lbs.), Precin at 57 kgs (125.5 lbs.) and Welch at 70 kgs (154 lbs.).  Sliga will wrestle at the 84 kg weight class in the FILA Junior Nationals.

Precin is the No. 5 seed at 61 kgs and Welch earned a No. 4 seed in the 70 kgs group. The Las Vegas/ASICS Senior Open Championships are scheduled for Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

USA Wrestling announced the full pre-seeds, which can be seen here.

Beebe joined the Northwestern staff as a volunteer coach in October of 2013. He was a four-time NCAA qualifier for Central Michigan and was on the coaching staff at Gardner Webb University from 2010-2012. Beebe helped guide four Gardner Webb student-athletes to become East Regional Champions and qualify for the 2011 NCAA National Championships, the most that the Runnin' Bulldogs have had in a single season since 2006.

Precin graduated from Northwestern in 2011. A three-time NCAA All-American, Precin also spent time as a volunteer assistant coach for the Wildcats after graduating. He ranks third all-time in NU history with 138 wins. He placed third at 125 lbs. twice at the NCAA championships and was a two-time Midlands champion. Away from Northwestern, Precin has enjoyed phenomenal success in freestyle competition. He won his first career title at the University Nationals last April. In 2010, he placed third at the United States World Team Trials at 55 kg.

Sliga compiled a 4-3 record wrestling unattached this season, winning matches by a major decision, tech fall and fall at 4:59. He won the 184 lbs. Duhawk Open on Feb. 1 at Loras College. Sliga also took second place this year at 184 lbs. at the UW-Parkside Tournament, the 42nd Annual Wisconsin Open. Last summer he won the Junior Nationals Freestyle Title at 195 lbs.

Welch graduated in 2013 after winning a Big Ten Championship and reaching the NCAA finals at 157 lbs. A three-time All-American at NU, he was a two-time Midlands champion, ranking seventh in school history with 117 career wins and a .841 winning percentage.
