2013 Midlands Brackets and Team Standings -- Final Brackets

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The 51st Ken Kraft Midlands Championship concluded Monday night with Northwestern registering 63.5 points to finish in seventh place.

Pierce Harger led all Wildcats by finishing in fourth place at 165 lbs., the best Midlands showing of the NU junior's career.

NU wrestlers Jason Tsirtsis (149 lbs.) and Alex Polizzi (197 lbs.) each took fifth in their respective weight classes, while senior Pat Greco battled to sixth despite entering the tournament seeded 12th at 141 pounds and going toe-to-toe with the top two seeds along the way.

Iowa collected a Midlands Championships record 187.5 points -- surpassing the previous mark of 185.0 set by the Hawkeyes in 2007 -- to lead all squads, followed by Edinboro (102.5). Michigan (84.0) and Illinois (83.0) represented the Big Ten at third and fourth respectively.

Northwestern's No. 1 seed redshirt freshman Jason Tsirtsis finished in fifth place at 149 lbs. In the fifth place match, he jumped out to a solid lead and coasted to a 18-4 major decision over George Mason's Blake Roulo.

In the fifth place match at 141 lbs., Indiana's Ethan Raley, seeded No. 9, defeated the Wildcats' Pat Greco by a 5-2 count.

In the third place match at 165 lbs., Taylor Massa from Michigan defeated Harger by a 5-3 decision. Polizzi won fifth place at 197 pounds -- matching his seed for the event -- following a medical forfeit by Illinois' No. 1 seed Mario Gonzalez.

With the 51st Ken Kraft Midlands Championships in the books, Drew Pariano's Northwestern squad enters the meat of its Big Ten dual schedule on Saturday when it welcomes Indiana to Welsh-Ryan Arena on Saturday. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m. with the Big Ten Network providing a live television broadcast of the match.
