    Freshman Schmitt Takes First Place in UW-Parkside Tournament

    EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 10 Northwestern’s freshman Jacob Schmitt took first place in the 133 lbs. bracket Saturday at the UW-Parkside Tournament, the 42 Annual Wisconsin Open tournament.

    Schmitt, who was wrestling unattached and saw his first action of his collegiate career, was named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrester.

    The freshman from St. John’s High School in Dewitt, Mich. defeated teammate Dom Malone by a decision in the first place match at 133 lbs., as Malone took second place.

    Junior Jameson Oster, competing unattached, won at 141 lbs. He defeated UW-Whitewater’s Matt Adcock with a fall (1:43). 


     

     

    At 125 lbs., Garrison White took third place, defeating UW-Parkside’s Ronzel Darling by a major decision. Colin Shober also finished in third place, at 149 lbs., defeating Michigan State’s Christian Pagdilao by a 3-2 decision.

    Dylan Marriott, wrestling at 157 lbs., finished in third place. In the final match, he defeated Elmhurst College’s Nick DiNardo by a 9-5 decision.

    Also competing unattached, freshman Mitch Sliga from Fishers, Ind. earned valuable experience finishing in second place at 184 lbs. In the first place match, Sliga fell to Michigan’s Domenic Abounader.
