Keystone Classic Bracket
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Northwestern redshirt freshman Jason Tsirtsis won the 149 lbs. championship in the Keystone Classic at the University of Pennsylvania Sunday.
In a bracket style tournament, Northwestern finished in third place with 100.5 points in the 12 school tournament. Bloomsburg won the tournament with 117 points, followed by Indiana (108 points).
The ‘Cats scored higher than Pittsburgh (95), Arizona State (84), Rider (82), Pennsylvania (76), Boston (60.5), Harvard (46.5), American (45), Campbell (36.5) and Appalachian State (31).
Tsirtsis defeated American’s Mark Cirello, Rider’s Curt Delia, Appalachian State’s Dylan Cottrell and Bloomsburg’s Bryce Busler en route to the 149 lbs. championship.
The ‘Cats Pat Greco (141 lbs.) recorded a second place finish and Pierce Harger took third place at 165 lbs. Lee Munster finished in second place at 174 lbs. and Alex Polizzi (197 lbs.) earned a third place finish.
At 125 lbs., Garrison White opening the meet advancing to the second round before falling to Pittsburgh’s Anthony Zanetta and reached the second round of the consolation bracket.
At 133 lbs., Dominick Malone reached the championship round, finishing in second place. Pittsburgh’s Shelton Mack defeated Malone to win the 133 lb. title.
Pat Greco reached the 141 lbs. semifinals, winning three bouts before falling to the eventual champion, Ethan Raley from Big Ten rival Indiana. Also at 141 lbs., NU’s Matt Greene reached the second round.
At 157 lbs., Dylan Marriott and Ben Sullivan each won a pair of matches for the ‘Cats.
NU’s Pierce Harger took third place at 165 lbs., winning four total bouts and Lee Munster reached the 174 lbs. championship, before falling to Pittsburgh’s Tyler Wilps to finish in second place.
In the 197 lbs. bracket, Alex Polizzi won his first two matches and ended with a third place finish.
