    Tsirtsis, Harger, Polizzi, McMullan Gets Wins at Illinois

    EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 10 Northwestern registered four individual victories against Illinois Sunday at Huff Hall, all coming from the Wildcats (6-7, 1-7) ranked wrestlers, but Illinois topped NU 24-12 in the dual. 

    No. 4 Jason Tsirtsis got NU on the scoreboard, recording the ‘Cats first win against Illinois’ John Fahy. Tsirtsis improved to 21-3 on the season with a 7-2 decision.

    Two bouts later, No. 7 Pierce Harger recorded a 10-4 decision over No. 13 Jackson Morse. It was Harger’s second win on the season against a ranked opponent

    In the upper weights, NU won two straight bouts at 197 and heavyweight. No. 17 Alex Polizzi at 197 lbs. defeated Jeffrey Koepke 7-6. Mike McMullan, ranked No. 1 at heavyweight and the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week, moved to 9-1 on the sesaon by defeating Illinois’ Chris Lopez 4-0.

    Up next for the ‘Cats, NU returns home for their final home dual of the season, facing Stanford on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 12 noon at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

    The dual against the Cardinal will be senior day, as NU honors its wrestlers competing for the final time at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
